The most important advice when purchasing a diamond.

Back

Two diamonds with the same weight, shape, color and clarity grades... certified by the same gemological laboratory are rarely equal in value.

The difference can be considerable; buyers should work with a diamond company that provides a thorough education and offers only the 'best of the best' diamonds from around the world.

* Example A:  Compare the two diamonds and GIA certificates below:

1.71 vs 1.70 cushions

Theoretically the 1.71 GIA F/VS2 cushion on the left should be more valuable than the 1.70 GIA G/SI1 on the right. In reality the 1.70 is a far more beautiful, brilliant and valuable diamond because the 1.71 has been cut to maximize weight whereas the 1.70 has been cut correctly to optimize face size and brilliance.

Weight, color and clarity on "any certificate" is no more than a starting point for an expert to judge value and brilliance.

* Example B: The 2 diamonds below weight 2.01 carats each, however there is no comparison in desirability, face size and brilliance.

                                                                                  These two diamonds both weigh 2.01 carats.

* Example C:
The diamond on the left should be slightly more valuable based upon the certificate grades alone, however which looks more desirable to you?
