What Is a Lab Grown Diamond?
Lab grown diamonds (also referred to as man-made manufactured, or lab created diamonds) are grown in a laboratory using cutting-edge technology to replicate a natural diamond by a process of growing crystallized carbon. When perfectly executed, it is possible to create a manmade diamond with the identical carbon atom structure and physical and optical characteristics as a natural diamond created billions of years ago beneath the Earth’s surface.
Man-made diamonds are not fake. They have the same physical and chemical properties as a natural mined diamond.
Are Lab Grown Diamonds Real?
Yes definitely! Lab grown diamonds are REAL diamonds, identical in every way to mined diamonds. Lab grown diamonds are 100% pure crystallized carbon, which are cut, polished and graded with the exact same tools and processes as natural diamonds. Lab Grown vs. Mined Diamonds

How Are Lab Grown Diamonds Created?
There are two possible techniques: High Pressure, High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD).
1. The HPHTprocess operates in an extremely High Pressure, High Temperature environment. To produce gem quality diamonds, the heat level must reach 1500 degrees Celsius and the pressure in the chamber must approach a staggering 1.5 million pounds per square inch.
HPHT diamonds begin by combining a graphite seed with pure carbon. The pure carbon melts in the enormous heat and pressure, thus gradually growing a lab created diamond around the graphite seed. The resulting diamond crystal is then carefully cooled, thereby successfully replicating mother nature.
2. The CVD process begins with a seed that is a thin slice of a natural or HPHT diamond. The diamond ‘slice’ is placed in a sealed chamber heated to approximately 800 degrees Celsius
Various carbon rich gases, such as Methane, are introduced in precise ratios and are ionized into plasma using technology similar to that of microwaves or lasers. The ionization breaks the molecular bonds in the gases, the pure carbon adheres to the diamond seed and miraculously a diamond crystal forms
Both processes create equally beautiful diamond crystals – differences between the very best CVD and HPHT diamond are undetectable to the naked eye. Both the CVD and HPHT method create real diamonds that are optically, chemically, and physically identical to earth-grown diamonds.
Are Lab-Created Diamonds Graded and Certified by The Same Diamond Laboratories?
The same gemologists, procedures and instruments are used to grade both mined diamonds and lab created diamonds. All diamonds are evaluated by gemologists using the internationally accepted 4 C’s criteria: Color, Clarity, Carat weight and Cut. This process is designed to provide each diamond with an unbiased grade.
