Man Made Diamonds | Ethical Engagement Rings
quality Lab grown diamond engagement rings.
Benefits of Lab Grown Diamonds
A man made diamond consists of carbon atom structures with the identical chemical, physical, and optical characteristics – including flaws and grading – as a natural diamond grown deep within Earth’s surface.
Depending upon size and quality, cost savings to the consumer can be 50% or more compared to equivalent natural diamonds.
Not only do man-made diamonds offer the same clarity and brilliance as mined stones, but they are eco-friendly and substantially less costly. Simply put – Lab Grown diamonds are manufactured in a sustainable manner and eliminate the controversial mining process.
Ascot Select © man-made diamonds represent only the “best of the best” lab grown diamonds. The very best stones need to be selected by true professionals as not all lab grown diamonds are created equal. Some have graining, a hint of brown or an unnatural blue glow.
We care about our diamond selection and guarantee prices competitive with any other source. Visit an Ascot Showroom today and experience the true “Ascot Select” difference for yourself.
What Is a Lab Grown Diamond?
Lab grown diamonds (also referred to as man-made manufactured, or lab created diamonds) are grown in a laboratory using cutting-edge technology to replicate a natural diamond by a process of growing crystallized carbon. When perfectly executed, it is possible to create a manmade diamond with the identical carbon atom structure and physical and optical characteristics as a natural diamond created billions of years ago beneath the Earth’s surface.
Man-made diamonds are not fake. They have the same physical and chemical properties as a natural mined diamond.
Are Lab Grown Diamonds Real?
Yes definitely! Lab grown diamonds are REAL diamonds, identical in every way to mined diamonds. Lab grown diamonds are 100% pure crystallized carbon, which are cut, polished and graded with the exact same tools and processes as natural diamonds. Lab created diamonds have the same refractive index, dispersion, and hardness qualities of natural diamonds and are graded using the same laboratories and techniques as mined diamonds.
Lab Grown vs. Mined Diamonds
As mentioned already, lab grown diamonds have the same physical, chemical, and optical characteristics as mined diamonds. The only difference being the origin. Lab grown diamonds are manufactured in a laboratory using the finest century cutting-edge technology whereas natural diamonds crystalize by unique natural conditions. As such, the best lab grown diamonds exhibit the identical fire, brilliance and sparkle as the best mined diamonds.
It is also worth noting that lab created diamonds are manufactured over the course of several weeks depending upon size. The man-made process is complicated and the success rate to create true gem quality crystals is currently around 50% of production. Rejected crystals are used by various industries for computers and cutting tools.
Furthermore, while producing man-made diamonds is less costly than mining natural diamonds, the capital cost and manpower required to run a successful Lab Grown Diamond laboratory are considerable. Additionally, it should be noted that the costs of cutting, polishing and certifying are identical to mined diamonds.Lab Grown vs. Mined Diamonds

How Are Lab Grown Diamonds Created?
There are two possible techniques: High Pressure, High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD).
1. The HPHTprocess operates in an extremely High Pressure, High Temperature environment. To produce gem quality diamonds, the heat level must reach 1500 degrees Celsius and the pressure in the chamber must approach a staggering 1.5 million pounds per square inch.
HPHT diamonds begin by combining a graphite seed with pure carbon. The pure carbon melts in the enormous heat and pressure, thus gradually growing a lab created diamond around the graphite seed. The resulting diamond crystal is then carefully cooled, thereby successfully replicating mother nature.
2. The CVD process begins with a seed that is a thin slice of a natural or HPHT diamond. The diamond ‘slice’ is placed in a sealed chamber heated to approximately 800 degrees Celsius
Various carbon rich gases, such as Methane, are introduced in precise ratios and are ionized into plasma using technology similar to that of microwaves or lasers. The ionization breaks the molecular bonds in the gases, the pure carbon adheres to the diamond seed and miraculously a diamond crystal forms
Both processes create equally beautiful diamond crystals – differences between the very best CVD and HPHT diamond are undetectable to the naked eye. Both the CVD and HPHT method create real diamonds that are optically, chemically, and physically identical to earth-grown diamonds.
Are Lab-Created Diamonds Graded and Certified by The Same Diamond Laboratories?
Yes, all the recognized and reputable diamond grading laboratories, including GIA, AGS, EGL US, IGI, GCAL etc., grade and certify lab grown diamond
The same gemologists, procedures and instruments are used to grade both mined diamonds and lab created diamonds. All diamonds are evaluated by gemologists using the internationally accepted 4 C’s criteria: Color, Clarity, Carat weight and Cut. This process is designed to provide each diamond with an unbiased grade.
